Remastered ranks
Witcher 3 skill tree
Witcher 3 skill tree still uses four branches — Combat, Signs, Alchemy, General — and mutagen colours that buff a filled group. Remastered rebuilds each skill into a three-rank prerequisite tree and resets spent points. Matching red, blue, or green mutagens still reward a slot group; General stays brown with no colour bonus. Rank damage stays off the table until CDPR publishes numbers. Read it before you spend the reset, then pick a school on Witcher 3 witcher gear that matches the branch you actually slotted. The table is branch, colour, mutagen pairing, and the Remastered note from the Steam community announcement — nothing else.

What Remastered actually changed

The Steam Remastered notes say the skill system is now a prerequisite tree with three ranks per skill, and spent points are reset. That is a live-build fact as of 29 September 2026, not a 2015 or 2022 panel. Plan a Combat, Signs, or Alchemy core after you log in, not from an old screenshot of a flat skill grid. Sign visual effects were updated in the same notes; that is presentation, not a new fifth branch.
Ukrainian text localization and Reforge appearance swaps at Yoana and Hattori also ship in those notes. Reforge does not change item stats and does not spend skill points. If you came here from a version timeline, stay on this panel: the Path wiki’s job is how you spend the reset, not how to patch-match 2015, Next-Gen stills, and Remastered SKUs. Open the panel once after 29 September 2026, confirm the empty ranks, then spend; old screenshots of a flat grid are the previous build.
Combat, Signs, Alchemy, General
Combat is the red attack-power pairing. Signs are blue sign intensity. Alchemy is green vitality. General is brown and ignores mutagen colour. Community colour logic still says three matching skills in a slot group get the mutagen bonus; CDPR has not published Remastered numeric bonuses in the notes we have, so the table leaves those numbers blank until CDPR publishes them.
Griffin gear leans Signs; Cat leans fast Combat; Bear leans Quen and tanky Combat; Manticore leans bombs and Alchemy. None of those leans is a hidden stat CDPR printed as a percentage on Steam. Use the compare slate on the gear board, then slot the colour that matches the school you actually crafted. Mutagens with mixed colours waste the group bonus; General skills will not fix a mixed row. If a row mixes red and blue skills under one mutagen, you paid for a colour bonus you will not get. Slot General only after the coloured groups are filled; brown skills will not rescue a mixed mutagen row.
How to spend the reset without a damage table
Pick a branch you will fill to three matching slots before you sprinkle General. A Signs Geralt who never slots three blue skills is paying for a mutagen that does nothing extra. A Combat Cat build that also wants Yrden still needs a second group, not a fake hybrid number. If you do not know the next main-quest door, finish Witcher 3 main quest order far enough to know whether you are still in White Orchard or already at Kaer Morhen — point density feels different after the keep fight, but the colour rule does not change.
Skip a YouTube rank list that quotes 2015 percentages as if Remastered printed them. The honest board is: four colours, three ranks, points reset, mutagen groups still matter, numbers unpublished. When CDPR publishes rank values, the table can add a column. Until then the table’s Remastered note is the whole official claim.
A practical first spend after the reset: fill three Combat or three Signs slots before touching General, slot a matching mutagen, then add the other colour only if you actually crafted a second school. Alchemy Geralt who wants Manticore should wait until Toussaint is open rather than dumping green ranks in White Orchard and respeccing twice. The panel will let you; the Path wiki does not treat that as efficient. Pair the skill board with Witcher 3 Gwent only as a tavern break, not as a skill branch — Gwent is a minigame, not a fifth colour. If you already spent on Remastered and hate the tree, the notes do not describe a second free reset; play the ranks you have or wait for a later published respec tool.
Frequently asked questions
Did Remastered refund my skill points?
Yes. The Steam Remastered notes say spent skill points are reset when the new three-rank prerequisite tree arrives. Log in, look at an empty panel, and spend again. Old 2015 or Next-Gen slot screenshots will not match the new ranks. Log in after 29 September 2026, look at empty ranks, and spend again. A screenshot of a 2015 flat grid will not match the three-rank tree.
Do mutagen colours still matter?
Yes. Combat, Signs, and Alchemy still pair with red, blue, and green. A greater bonus still comes from three matching skills in a slot group. General stays without a colour bonus. Exact Remastered numbers are not in the first-party notes, so the table does not list them. If a build guide quotes a 2015 percentage as if it were a Remastered tooltip, ignore the number and keep the colour grouping; the reset already threw the old ranks out. Mixed colours under one mutagen waste the group bonus. Fill three matching slots first, then add General, then add a second colour only if you crafted a second school.
