Olgierd, O’Dimm, Viper
Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone
Witcher 3 Hearts of Stone is Steam expansion 378649, released 12 October 2015 and included for current Complete Edition / Remastered owners. The finale Whatsoever a Man Soweth... either frees Olgierd von Everec or pays Gaunter O’Dimm. Viper armor diagrams hide with Countess Mignole during Open Sesame! and are missable. Shani’s optional romance lives here and does not replace Yennefer or Triss. Start from Velen once the map allows it; you do not need to finish Tedd Deireadh first. The three-row table is the captured expansion set: save Olgierd, pay O’Dimm, and the heist shop window.

Olgierd versus O’Dimm

Hearts of Stone is a Velen-side contract that becomes a pact. You work for Olgierd, then for Gaunter O’Dimm, then you choose at Whatsoever a Man Soweth... Solving the riddle at the wedding-world crossroads frees Olgierd and pays a saber. Standing aside lets O’Dimm collect and pays O’Dimm’s prizes instead. Failing or refusing the riddle defaults to O’Dimm. There is no third secret where both walk away smiling.
You must stay on O’Dimm’s path long enough to reach that crossroads if you want the chance to save Olgierd. Walking away from the expansion early simply never plays the finale. This is an expansion ending, not a Ciri flag. Pair it with Witcher 3 endings only if you are trying to schedule both finales on one save — they do not overwrite each other. Write the riddle answer down before the crossroads if you want Olgierd; guessing at the table is how O’Dimm collects.
Open Sesame!, Viper armor, Shani
Open Sesame! is the auction-house heist. Countess Mignole sells Viper armor diagrams in that window. Skip her and the diagrams have no later scavenger-hunt marker. Viper swords from the base hunt are separate. Filter Witcher 3 witcher gear to Hearts of Stone before the heist so you remember to buy while the shop exists.
Shani’s scenes sit beside A Matter of Life and Death and the heist calendar. They are optional and do not replace a main-game romance lock. If you want those scenes, do them while Hearts of Stone is still the active story; they are not a White Orchard leftover. Then return to Olgierd’s pact so the finale is not an afterthought you trip into after Toussaint. Buy the Viper diagrams before you leave the auction house floor; the map will not grow a later tomb pin for that armor. If the heist already ended, Viper swords may still be craftable from the base hunt, but the armor diagrams on that save are gone.
Where Hearts of Stone sits on a save
The expansion’s Velen contract appears once you are free of White Orchard’s tutorial loop. Playing it between Novigrad and Skellige is common because the map already has you in the region. Playing it after Kaer Morhen is fine too; it will not rewind Vesemir. The only hard missable on this board is Mignole’s Viper armor window during the heist, so if gear is the reason you opened the DLC, do Open Sesame! before you wander off into Ofier side stories and forget the shop.
Olgierd’s saber and O’Dimm’s prizes are finale rewards, not Ciri flags. They do not change Something Ends, Something Begins. Schedule the riddle when you are ready to pick a man to save, then go back to Witcher 3 endings if that was the real search. Hearts of Stone is Steam 378649 with a 12 October 2015 store date; Remastered owners already have it. Songs of the Past is a different app id and is not this pact. If the save is already in Toussaint, you can still return to Velen for the pact; the duchy does not close Ofier. Just do not expect Mignole’s shop to reopen after the heist calendar has moved on.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need to finish the main Path before Hearts of Stone?
No. The expansion starts from Velen once the map allows the contract. You can play it before the Isle of Mists. Just do not skip Open Sesame! if you want Viper armor, and do not expect it to change Ciri’s epilogue. You can start the Velen contract before the Isle of Mists. The pact will not rewind Vesemir. The missable that actually closes is Mignole’s shop during the heist.
How do I save Olgierd?
Stay with O’Dimm long enough to reach Whatsoever a Man Soweth..., then solve the riddle at the wedding-world crossroads. Standing aside, refusing, or failing the riddle lets O’Dimm take Olgierd. The saber and Olgierd’s freedom are the save-path rewards. If you already took the prizes, only an earlier save still has the riddle; the expansion will not offer a second crossroads on the same pact. Write the riddle down before the crossroads if you want Olgierd. Standing aside, refusing, or failing the riddle lets O’Dimm collect, and that save will not offer a second crossroads.
Play Hearts of Stone for the pact, the riddle, and the heist shop — not as a Ciri patch. Grab Mignole’s Viper diagrams while Open Sesame! is live. Decide Olgierd or O’Dimm at the crossroads, then return to the main Path flags if that was the real search. Steam 378649 is already in the Complete Edition / Remastered bundle; you do not buy it again to wear Viper armor.
